Podstawowe pytanie, jakie coraz częściej zadają świadomi pacjenci, wchodząc do gabinetu dentystycznego, brzmi: „Czy stosujecie Państwo wypełnienia stomatologiczne wolne od bisfenolu A?”.

Materiały kompozytowe stosowane w gabinecie Dentysta.eu do prac z zakresu stomatologii odtwórczej są wolne od bisfenolu A . Potwierdzają to międzynarodowe certyfikaty dla tych produktów.

Bisfenol A (BPA) należący do związków chemicznych z grupy fenoli obecnie jest jedną najpowszechniej wykorzystywanych organicznych substancji w produkcji rozmaitych dóbr konsumpcyjnych. Znaleźć go można m.in. w plastikowych pojemnikach na żywność, farbie wykorzystywanej do drukowania paragonów, a nawet w niektórych kompozytach dentystycznych. Jest praktycznie wszędzie, a jego produkcja sukcesywnie wzrasta. Do niedawna sądzono, że bisfenol A i jego związki są nieszkodliwe dla organizmów żywych. Okazuje się jednak, że jest inaczej, ponieważ:

• BPA kumuluje się w glebie i w tkance tłuszczowej;
• z uwagi na szerokie spektrum działań niepożądanych, jakie może wywołać już w niewielkich stężeniach, ma znaczący wpływ na przebieg procesów toczących się na poziomie komórkowym (metabolizm), jak i tkankowym (pośredni wpływ na tworzenie nowotworów) oraz ustrojowym (procesy hormonalne i rozrodcze).

BPA a warunki panujące w jamie ustnej

Związki bisfenolu A znalazły zastosowanie w stomatologii jako monomery wchodzące w skład materiałów kompozytowych wykorzystywanych do odtwarzania uszkodzonych elementów koron zębów, zastępując dotychczas stosowane amalgamaty rtęciowe i stanowiąc nowocześniejszą alternatywę dla cementów krzemowych czy wypełnień sporządzonych z metali szlachetnych. W kompozytach stomatologicznych bisfenol A występuje w formie monomeru podstawowego pod postacią metakrylanów bisfenolu A, określanych skrótami Bis – DMA, Bis – GMA i Bis – EMA. Monomery podstawowe w procesie polimeryzacji i w obecności pozostałych mineralnych i organicznych składników kompozytu tworzą strukturę długołańcuchową, o dużej wytrzymałości mechanicznej. Okazuje się jednak, że nie wszystkie monomery pochodnych BPA zostaną włączone w łańcuch wielkocząsteczkowy podczas polimeryzacji. W zależności od warunków, w jakich przebiega proces łączenia się monomerów w łańcuch polimerowy, w środowisku jamy ustnej może pozostać ok. 1-30% wolnych monomerów. Monomery uwalniane są też z utwardzonego już kompozytu – w odpowiednich warunkach fizykochemicznych.
